Forever Friends!

Good Morning! We are all packed, had breakfast, and took one last group photo on the beach. Today's morning song was Forever Friends. The kids had a great time with beautiful weather. They are on their final lesson, and when they return will have an early lunch. After lunch, we will load buses around 12:00 and depart around 12:30. Your children will soon be home with memories and friends that will last forever! See you soon!

Good Last Night

This afternoon, kids had choices of lessons to go on. Some of the choices were: survival, beach yoga, pine cone baseball, nature games and more. Before dinner, we had kids "pre-pack" and organize their belongings for our departure tomorrow. After dinner, the kids went on an Eco-Quest where they had to identify an area on the Ferry Beach Campus that fit certain characteristics in productivity, disturbance, and diversity. Later we gathered together for groups to share poetry, and a rap. Our evening ended with a song from the staff here. Now, the kids are tucked into beds awaiting one more lesson tomorrow, and hopefully another Red Sox win tonight! See you all tomorrow. I hope to get one final morning post before loading our buses. Good Last Night and Go Sox!

Great Beach Day!

The morning lesson was to learn about the beach and dune ecosystems. Some groups built the White Mountains and the rivers that lead to the Saco, creating the beach they were on, more scavenger hunts, and acting out skits, made up a sample of today's activities.

Our Last Full Day is Under Way!

We are all smiles at Ferry Beach as the Sox take game one in the World Series, and we were greeted by yet another lovely sunrise on our last full day! Many of us enjoyed a stroll on the beach before our breakfast of French toast, sausage, and cereal.

Here We Go Red Sox, Here We Go!

This evening the lesson was Nature at Night. They learned about adaptations that help nocturnal animals during the night. Most groups played a game of Bat and Moth to learn how bats use echolocation to find their prey. We enjoyed some beach time before dinner this evening which is where most of tonight's pictures come from. Go Sox!

Salt Marsh Spa

Today the kids visited the salt marsh. Most groups enjoyed a scavenger hunt of various things to find in this ecosystem. They had a great time on a beautiful day, and several took advantage of the free facials the Salt Marsh Spa had to offer...including Mrs. Nagle!

Good Day Sunshine!

Good morning! The kids had a great night sleep and woke up to a beautiful sunrise. We took a walk along the beach this morning before our 8am breakfast. Skipping rocks, finding seaglass and sand dollars, or just walking and chatting was a great way to start our day!

Stars in the Sky and Sand

This evening's lesson was Astronomy. Some groups created and named their own constellations, some created a packing list for space travel, while others mapped out the distance of the planets which led us to the beach. They observed constellations from the beach and then scratched or dug in the sand to see "stars" in the sand...actually dinoflagellates(microorgnaisms or marine plankton). It has been a busy active day. The lights went out at 9pm and the boys on the third floor were sound asleep at 9:12!

Biddeford Tide Pools

After breakfast of cereal, pancakes, and sausages, we took a short bus trip to the Biddeford Tide Pools. The kids had an amazing time exploring through seaweed, water, and rocks to discover sea urchins, crabs, periwinkles, dog welks, and more! We have just completed lunch of salad, pork fajitas, rice, and chips. The kids are fed, active, and still smiling!

Good Tuesday Morning!

Good Morning from Ferry Beach. The kids had a good night sleep. Many were up before 7am brushing their teeth and watching the sun rise over Saco Bay. Some are taking a walk on the beach, while others are predicting the weather. From where I sit, it looks favorable for a great day! We will soon have breakfast, then board a bus to the Biddeford Tide Pools.

Sweepers, Snatchers and Invaders, Oh My!

After their first lesson, the kids had some more free time filled with football, soccer, knock-out, hula hoops, and the spinning cups! Then we enjoyed a dinner of pasta, sauce, garlic bread, salad, and broccoli. The night lesson was Marine Lab, where students learned about sweepers, snatchers, invaders, and more types of sea life they may see tomorrow morning at the tide pools. As I blog, the dorm is quiet, and I can hear the waves crashing outside my window. Day 1 has come to close.

We Have Arrived Safely!

We arrived safely around 10:15. The buses were unload and the kids brought their luggage up to their dorm rooms. They performed a practice fire drill, had some free time, and ate lunch. Today's lunch was salad, clam chowder, turkey and cheese sandwiches on freshly baked bread, chips, and fruit. 'The kids are currently on their first lesson...The ABC's of Ecology. The weather is beautiful and there are a lot of smiles here at Ferry Beach.
